ABOUT US
TEACHING ABORIGINAL CULTURE THROUGH ART
We are an Aboriginal mother/daughter duo who work with people of all ages to teach you about Aboriginal culture with a main focus on art. With art we can reflect our love and respect for “country”, offer an affirmation to our culture and discuss political views. Traditionally, we used art to maintain our culture and link to community, however today we use it as a teaching tool and a medium for change. It is through art that we can show non-Aboriginal people how we have evolved and adapted to a society that is only now recognizing our resilience as a culture, acknowledging our achievements and the importance of our cultural contributions to the dynamics of being Australian. Culture is a basic human right and it is taken for granted by most people yet for Indigenous Australians it was stripped from them and they were forbidden to practice their culture. We aim to change this by using our experiences and knowledge to educate people through art about our culture and the rich history and importance behind it.
